Bakewell and Fairways – April 26th 2025
This morning, we will take a scenic drive through the Staffordshire and Derbyshire countryside arriving at Fairways just outside Ashbourne for our morning refreshments. Fairways is an outstanding garden centre situated among the gentle rolling landscape on the edge of the Peak District. It won Garden centre of the year in 2023 for its exceptionally large and welcoming café, its selection of plants, trees, etc., its friendly staff and the excellent range of merchandise of all descriptions.
From here, we will continue our journey to the ever-popular town of Bakewell located on the River Wye and nestled within the Peak District National Park. It has attractive, independent shops, courtyards and cafés and is well known for a confection made by accident. In the 19th century a cook at the Rutland Arms was baking a jam tart but misunderstood the recipe and so Bakewell Pudding or is it Tart? was created. Now almost every visitor to the town samples this delight. We will have the remainder of the day here to have lunch and explore this lovely place.
The coach will leave from Albrighton, Crown bus shelter at 9.00am and The Methodist Church, Histons Hill, Codsall at 9.15am returning by about 6.00pm. The cost of this trip is £32 and includes the driver’s tip.
