Cheltenham is a Regency spa resort and its main street, The Promenade is considered to be one of the most beautiful thoroughfares in the country, with its tree lined avenue flanked by smart shops, cafés and the Neptune Fountain. The area at the far end of the Promenade is known as Montpellier. With a village atmosphere it is a fashionable smart area. Here you will find individual shops and on Montpellier Walk, you will find a line of Caryatids (stone sculpted figures modelled on The Acropolis in Athens) at the side of every shop. The art gallery and museum has been enlarged and extended and is now known as The Wilson, located in Clarence Street and in nearby Clarence Road the composer Gustav Holst was born and his childhood home is the Holst Birthplace Museum where you can see the piano on which he composed The Planets. There are plenty of quality shops too if you fancy some early Christmas shopping. We will be stopping en route at Webbs of Wychbold which is magical at Christmas and has a vast array of tempting foodstuffs, gifts, etc.etc. etc. The cost of this trip to Cheltenham via the Cotswolds trip will be £32.
