CODSALL & ALBRIGHTON OUTINGSSaturday May 17th 2025 Market Harborough & Ely
Our first stop this morning is in Market Harborough for mid morning refreshments There is an indoor market and plenty of individual shops, cafes etc, to browse. From here we are travelling east to Cambridgeshire, to visit Ely, being the second smallest city in England with its fine Cathedral. It is one of England's most beautiful and largest Cathedrals known locally as the 'Ship of the Fens ‘and famous for its Octagon tower, which can be seen from the flatlands of the Fens for miles around. It’s most famous resident was of course Oliver Cromwell. The Cromwell family lived in Ely for some 10 years and you can visit their former house which has been recreated to demonstrate what 17th Century domestic life would have been like along with an exhibition on the civil war. It also doubles as the Tourist Information Centre. Ely has a beautiful waterside area, where you can explore the many cafes and restaurants, antique shops or visit the art galleries. Alternatively, simply take time out to relax and watch the river boats pass by. The Coach will leave Albrighton 8.15am, and Codsall at 8.30am and we should be back around 7.30pm. Cost of this trip is £36.00. Regards, Brenda Market Harborough & Ely Saturday May 17th 2025
