Port Sunlight and Liverpool, Saturday October 18th 2025
We will leave Codsall at 8.00 a.m. and Albrighton at 8.15 a.m. to drive to Port Sunlight, on The Wirral in Cheshire.
Port Sunlight was built by William Hesketh Lever, (later Lord Leverhulme), to house the workers from the soap factory which he had set up nearby in the late 1800’s. It is preserved to-day as a great example of how some Victorian industrialists were concerned to look after their workers and give them good housing and a pleasant environment in which to live. To-day we will be having a guided tour of the village and have the opportunity to visit the Lady Leverhulme gallery with its collection of English paintings and furniture and information about the people who once worked at Port Sunlight. There is an optional museum at a cost of £6 (2024)
We will spend the afternoon ‘across the water’, in Liverpool. You will have a free afternoon here and be able to explore around the old waterfront at the Albert Docks, which to-day is a busy renovated area with wonderful views across the River Mersey. Walk the promenade and see the statues or stroll into town for the shopping streets and malls, or visit famous sites such as the two cathedrals, the art galleries and museums.
We aim to return to Codsall / Albrighton by about 7.00 p.m.
The cost for this will be £36, to include the guided tour by coach and all tips.
